Plans are in the pipeline to recommence the production of peanuts, says Devon Warner, Chairman of the Barbuda Council’s Agriculture Committee.
Peanuts were once a popular commodity grown on the sister island for export, and Warner says he is in the process of reviving that industry.
To that end, he has already contacted a business in Florida. This company, he says, had previously offered to share with the Council its expertise on peanut production.
Warner says the area has already been earmarked and fencing should commence shortly.
Speaking on agriculture on a whole, the Committee Chairman says farmers are doing well. He adds that the Council, itself, will have crops ready for the market in the next few months.
